DWA has two key objectives:
- The development of strong disability groups, effectively advocating for, and supporting, their members’ needs.
- The development of mainstream communities with the capacity to respond to the needs of their disabled members.
We seek to fulfil these key objectives in the following ways:
Training and Sharing
DWA run training and sharing events which enable participants to discuss their ideas and their application. These events also include organisations and individuals beyond the Wales Africa sector. Please visit our presentations page to read about past contributions. Additionally, our news and events page can tell you what is being planned for the future.
DWA believes that the answer to many questions being faced can be found in groups and individuals sharing what they already know. We want to establish Welsh and African based Networks where people come together and discuss issues concerning disability and development. Please visit our blog page and engage with the ongoing debates. We are particularly eager, where possible, to get contributions from Africa in this section.
Newsletters and other Publications
Through our newsletter, DWA wishes to encourage people to share their experiences. We are always looking for new articles and features. Please visit our resources page to find out what people have already written about.
Although DWA has no money in itself to support disability inclusive initiatives, it can help through suggestions and ideas. Where appropriate, we may be able to assist with the search for funding and even the compilation of an application. However, the project in question must have a clear disability component and keep to our vision, as well as the key objectives, already mentioned. DWA may also coordinate initiatives across several community Links.
DWA is not a Wales Africa Link in itself. It supports such Links to develop their disability focus. Therefore any project supported will remain the property of the respective Link.
