Including Disabled People

In 2019 DWA secured funding to carry out a piece of research looking at the barriers disabled people face in Wales when trying to engage with the Wales Africa sector. The Including Disabled People research was carried out by Dr Natasha Hirst and Dr Alun Hughes. The project was a joint venture between DWA, Disability Wales and Hub Cymru Africa. Health Help Zambia

Disability Inclusive Development

Also in 2014, DWA commissioned work on Disability Inclusive Development within the Wales-Africa sector, you can read the Impact Report and Survey Report for the full findings. 

Survey Report, Wales Africa Sector – Disability Inclusion and Engagement

At the end of 2013, DWA commissioned a piece of research to take a snapshot of how the Wales Africa sector was managing in terms of disability inclusion and engagement. This report was published in February 2014 and is being used as a base to develop further activities. Many Links indicated their interest in receiving networking and training support, regarding disability issues. Others were aware of their obligations to include disabled people within their work but identified problems regarding execution. Whilst the report was a sample of a small sector and demonstrated a number of expected preconceived ideas concerning disability in Africa, it did show that there was some effort being made by a number of more established Links.

DWA Survey Report

DWA – Impact Report, Disability Awareness

We have also created an Impact report which outlines DWA’s contribution to the Wales Africa sector, and beyond, since 2010. The report also looks at the sector’s increasing disability awareness, which we are delighted to have played a key role in.
